How to roll dice online

  1. Select a die type and the number of dice. To mix dice types, add each type and quantity with Add to roll, up to 20 dice in total.
  2. Click Roll dice. Read the individual faces and the Total after the roll finishes.
  3. Switch between 3D and basic rendering to suit your device. You can rename individual dice and show or hide their labels.

Example: roll 2d6 or one d20

For 2d6, choose D6 with a quantity of two and click Roll dice. Each die shows 1 through 6, so their total ranges from 2 to 12. For a d20 check, use one D20 for a result from 1 through 20. To add another die type, select its button and add it to the same roll.

Individual faces and totals answer different questions

A pair of six-sided dice does not give every total equal odds: seven has more combinations than two or twelve. Use the separate die results when your game cares about doubles or specific faces. If you need one number with equal odds anywhere from 2 to 12, use the random number generator instead.

For a named roll with several different die types, follow the mixed dice roller guide.

Dice roller questions

Which dice can I roll?

D4, D6, D8, D10, D12 and D20 are supported. The number after D is the number of sides: a D8 can show 1 through 8. You can combine different supported dice in one roll.

Can I use the dice roller for Dungeons & Dragons?

You can roll the supported polyhedral dice for tabletop games, including D&D. The tool displays the dice and their sum; apply character bonuses, penalties and game-specific rules yourself.

Does 3D mode change the chances?

The rendering mode changes the presentation. The tool selects numeric results and then displays them using the selected view. Labels are for identifying dice and do not change the number of sides.

Can I label dice for different rolls?

Yes. Rename individual dice to keep track of roles such as an ability check or different damage dice. Hide labels when you want a simpler visual display.

Can a die roll the same number twice?

Yes. A new roll does not exclude previous faces. With a D6, for example, rolling a six leaves all six faces eligible for the next roll.
