How to pick a random name from a list
- Enter one name or option per line. Check the list for duplicate names before drawing if each person should have one entry.
- Set Items to pick from 1 to 20. Enable Pick each item once before repeating to draw entries from a remaining pool.
- Click Pick a random item. Copy the result, continue drawing or use Reset pool to make all entries available again.
Example: give everyone a classroom turn
Paste five different student names, enable Pick each item once before repeating and pick one item at a time. Each picked entry leaves the pool for the following draws. After all five have had a turn, the pool refills for a new round. Editing the list or pressing Reset pool also restores the entries.
A name draw, a wheel or a shuffled list?
This picker gives a text result without a spinning animation. Choose the wheel spinner for a visual draw in front of a group. Choose the list randomizer when you need every participant arranged into a complete speaking or playing order.
To prepare a class list and manage a full round, read the no-repeat student picker guide.
Random name picker questions
Can the same name be picked twice?
With Pick each item once before repeating off, each draw uses the full list and repeats are possible. With it on, used entries are removed from the pool. Duplicate lines still count as separate entries, so remove duplicate names yourself if each person should appear only once.
What happens when the remaining pool is too small?
The draw picks the remaining entries, even when there are fewer than Items to pick requests. After every entry has been picked, the next draw starts a new round. Reset pool starts a new round immediately.
Does this generate new names?
No. It selects from the names or options you provide. It does not invent fictional names. You can also enter tasks, quiz questions, meals or numbered choices.
Can I paste names from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Copy a single column and paste it into the list so each name occupies its own line. Blank lines are ignored. Copy result puts multiple selected entries on separate lines.
Are the names saved on a server?
Selection happens in your browser without an account, and this tool does not upload the list. The recent-draw history belongs to the current page session. See our Privacy & Data Policy for details.
