Spacebar Rhythm Test
This rhythm test lets you tap along with a visual beat at a chosen tempo. Pick a BPM, press space to start a 5-second round, and try to hit each beat as precisely as you can.
After the round, you will see how early or late your taps were on average, making it a handy timing trainer for rhythm games, music practice or anyone who wants to improve their sense of beat.
Watch the circle flash on each beat. Tap on the beat to stay in time.

Spacebar Rhythm Test FAQ
What does my rhythm accuracy mean?
The rhythm test reports your average timing error and whether you tend to tap early or late relative to the beat. As a rough interpretation:
- Average error under 30 ms: very accurate; almost on top of the beat
- 30-60 ms: solid timing; good for casual rhythm practice
- 60-100 ms: noticeable drift; you may be consistently early or late
- Over 100 ms: quite loose timing; useful starting point, but there is plenty of room to tighten up
If you are consistently early or late, that is normal - many players naturally lean one way. The goal is to make the error smaller over time, not necessarily to reach -perfect zero- on every run.
These ranges are approximate and meant only as rough guidelines.
What is the spacebar rhythm test?
It is a short timing exercise where you press the spacebar in sync with a visual metronome. For each 5-second round, the test shows a beat at your chosen BPM and records how closely your taps match that beat.
How do I use it?
Select a BPM (from presets, custom, or random preset) and then press the spacebar or tap the button to start. During the 5-second round, the beat indicator will flash on every beat. Try to tap the spacebar in time with those flashes. When time is up, the round ends automatically. Use Reset if you want to cancel a round or change tempo.
How should I read the results?
After each round, you will see your average timing error in milliseconds and whether you tend to tap early or late overall. Smaller errors mean closer alignment with the beat. The "Recent rhythm runs" table shows your last few rounds (with their BPM and errors) for this session.
Can I use this for rhythm game or music practice?
Yes. While it is a simple visual beat tester, many users use it as a warm-up or training tool for rhythm games, music timing, dance practice or any activity that benefits from accurate beat matching.
Does it work on mobile and with the mouse?
Yes. You can tap the beat area on touch screens or click it with a mouse. Timing is measured the same way as with the spacebar, so the test works on phones, tablets and desktop browsers.
How accurate is the timing?
Beat timing and tap times are measured in milliseconds in your browser. That is fine for rhythm training and practice, but exact accuracy can be affected by your device, display and browser. Use it mainly to compare your own performance over time, not as a laboratory-grade metronome.
Is this tool free, safe, and local?
Yes. This tool is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. No account or installation is required, and your results are never sent to any server. All data stays on your device and is cleared when you refresh or close the page.
